RETIREMENT VISA
Foreigners 50 years of age or over wishing to retire in Thailand can apply for one-year retirement visa (Non-Immigrant OA visa type). The holder of this type of visa can stay in Thailand for a one-year period without the requirement to leave the country to obtain a visa in another country. The visa renewal application can be filed every year at the immigration office in Thailand.
Qualifications:
1.) The applicant must be 50 years of age or over on the date of application;
2.) Must have evidence of having income or pension of no less than Baht 65,000 per month;
3.) On the filing date, for the first year only, the applicant must have funds deposited in a savings account in a bank in Thailand of no less than Baht 800,000 for the last 90 days. For the renewal from the second year, the applicant must have proof of a deposit account in which said amount of funds has been maintained for no less than 60 days prior to the filing date;
4.) Must have an annual earning and funds deposited with a bank totaling no less than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date;
5.) The applicant must have been granted a Non-immigrant visa. The applicant can apply for a 90-days Non-Immigrant O visa at the Royal Thai Embassy prior to his/her arrival in Thailand. If the applicant enters Thailand with tourist visa/ visa on arrival the applicant must convert the visa type to a 90 days Non-immigrant O visa at least 15 days before the visa expires. Once having obtained a 90-days Non-immigrant O visa he/she can apply for a one-year Non-immigrant O retirement visa.
6.) A foreigner who entered Thailand before October 21, 1998 and has been consecutively permitted to stay in the Kingdom for retirement is subject to the following criteria:
(a) Must be 60 years of age or over and have an annual fixed income with funds maintained in a bank account for the past three months of no less than Baht 200,000 or have a monthly income of no less than Baht 20,000.
(b) If less than 60 years of age but not less than 55 years of age, must have an annual fixed income with funds maintained in a bank account for the past three months of no less than Baht 500,000 or have a monthly income of no less than Baht 50,000.
